Macao's cultural scene is expanding with the opening of the Poly MGM Museum at MGM Macau. A collaboration between MGM Macau and Poly Culture Group, the museum occupies nearly 2,000sqm and showcases over 230 artefacts from more than 20 international cultural institutions.
The museum’s inaugural exhibition, "The Maritime Silk Road — Discover the Mystical Sea and Encounter the Treasures of the Ancient Trade Route," explores the historical trade network that linked East and West. Curated by Su Dan, deputy director of the China National Arts & Crafts Museum, the exhibition is divided into four zones, blending historical artefacts, such as pottery, jade, and textiles, with contemporary art that reflects the cultural connections along the Silk Road.
Key highlights include the bronze zodiac heads from the Old Summer Palace and a Qing Dynasty Guangcai plate inscribed with Farsi characters, illustrating the multicultural exchanges along the trade route. These objects offer insights into the rich history and cultural fusion fostered by the Silk Road.
“This museum is a bridge, connecting China’s history with the global community,” Pansy Ho, chairperson of MGM China, said, highlighting Macao's role as a hub for cultural dialogue.
The museum incorporates modern technology, with interactive displays, LED screens, and directional sound systems, enhancing visitor engagement. It is open daily with free admission, though advance bookings are required via the museum’s website to ensure a comfortable visit. The museum also plans to host educational programmes and events to deepen visitors’ understanding of art and culture.
