What is it about Perth in Western Australia that so many low-cost airlines want to fly there?
Jetstar, AirAsia Malaysia and Vietjet have all started, or plan to start, services to the West Australian capital city.
Jetstar will add non-stop flights between Singapore, Bangkok, and Phuket to Perth beginning in late-2024.
The airline will also bolster its presence in WA by opening a Perth
base for more than 60 pilots and four aircraft, including the new Airbus
A321neo LR, with additional routes to be confirmed in the coming
months.
Meanwhile, AirAsia Malaysia is introducing its first Australian route
to Perth, complementing the daily medium-haul operations currently
flown between Perth and Kuala Lumpur by affiliate airline AirAsia X.
The new service has been made possible by the arrival in the AirAsia
Malaysia fleet of the A321neo aircraft with its longer-range capability
beyond the usual four-hour radius flown by the carrier.
Also heading Down Under, Vietjet this week made its inaugural flight
connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Perth, offering five weekly flights.
The budget carrier also launched services to Adelaide this week, with a
similar frequency.
