Singapore Airlines has announced compensation packages for passengers affected by the turbulent SQ321 flight, which experienced severe turbulence over Myanmar on 21 May 2024.
Passengers with minor injuries are being offered S$10,000, while
those with serious injuries requiring long-term medical care will
receive S$25,000 as an advance payment, according to a statement on the
airline's Facebook page.
The compensation aims to address immediate needs and will be part of
the final compensation package. Additionally, all passengers will
receive a full airfare refund and delay compensation as per EU or UK
regulations.
Furthermore, the airline provided immediate financial assistance of
S$1,000 to each passenger upon departure from Bangkok, Thailand, where
the flight made an emergency landing.
Singapore Airlines has been covering medical expenses for injured
passengers and facilitating travel arrangements for their families.
Hospital reports indicate a range of injuries suffered by passengers,
including paralysis, spinal cord damage, skull, and brain trauma.
Among the injured is Australian dance teacher Kerry Jordan, 52, who
sustained severe spine injuries, leaving her paralyzed from the chest
down.
Despite the severity of the injuries, hospital authorities state that
none are life-threatening, with ongoing treatment and observation
required to determine the extent of permanent damage.
