Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will soon begin operations for Terminal 2 departure facilities this 27 May, a move expected to support greater air connectivity with the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
T2 will serve some 15 airlines, mainly operating short-haul and regional routes, such as Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express, and Greater Bay Airlines, which will progressively shift operations ahead of the terminal’s opening.
The split between regional (T2) and international (T1) flights is expected to distribute passenger traffic more evenly and give a better passenger traffic experience.
Ahead of its full opening, the Coach Hall already began operations on 23 September last year, providing parking bays for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, crew and resident coaches, as well as ticketing counters for cross-boundary transport connecting more than 110 destinations in the GBA.
Full airside concourse and dedicated gates should arrive only later in 2027. In the meantime, passengers can reach T2 via the Airport Express, while taxis, cars and coaches can drop passengers directly at T2’s expanded landside zone.
T2 is expected to handle up to 15 million passengers by the end of 2026, with room to scale up in the following years.
