HONG KONG - Cathay Pacific has done a friend a favour by operating services on behalf of Air New Zealand.

Cathay  has planes to spare due to the ongoing political unrest in Hong Kong which has trimmed passenger demand, and Air New Zealand is short of aircraft while its  Boeing 787-9 fleet undergoes Rolls Royce engine repair and maintenance.

Cathay will operate flights on the Auckland to Hong Kong route for Air New Zealand, starting from Jan. 6.

“This aircraft capacity will help fill the gaps in our schedule to get people to their destinations in the coming weeks and it’s been beneficial to have our alliance partner Cathay Pacific step in and assist us at this busy time.” Air New Zealand senior manager customer care and communications, Doug Grant, told the NZ Herald.

Passengers booked on the Air New Zealand service have been automatically booked to the new CX service.

Cathay Pacific will be deploying one of its new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft from Jan. 6 to Jan.19 2020, before switching to a Boeing 777-300ER on the same route from Feb. 1 until March 28, 2020.
