India’s Akasa Air has begun daily direct flights between Mumbai and Phuket.

The launch marks Akasa Air’s entry into Southeast Asia, a region the airline says, “will remain central to the airline’s international growth strategy in the years ahead”.

The low-cost airline will further strengthen its operations to Thailand with the launch of daily direct flights between Bengaluru and Phuket, starting 1 October.

Akasa Air currently operates 30 737 MAX aircraft and has placed a firm order of 226 aircraft of the same type.

It currently serves Abu Dhabi, Doha and Kuwait on its international routes, and says the Thailand services are “just the beginning of our international journey”.
