When The St Regis Jakarta opened its doors in November 2022, it was clear this wasn’t just another five-star arrival. Known for its Manhattan-inspired formality, the property surprises from the outset.

Beneath the porte cochère, guests are greeted not with white-gloved grandeur, but with Bill Bensley’s theatrical flair – whimsical wood cabinets brimming with Indonesian artefacts, setting the tone for a hotel that celebrates local heritage with a playful edge.

This cheeky streak appears throughout the property – from outdoor metal sculptures and hot air balloon-styled cabanas by the pool, to a pavilion that channels a Flintstones-meets-industrial chic vibe. These contrasts sit seamlessly alongside Alexandra Champalimaud’s elegant Manhattan décor, where Indonesia’s cultural storytelling takes centre stage.

Immersion into Indonesian culture

At the Drawing Room, kinetic chandeliers inspired by Java’s mountains create a dazzling light show come evening – the perfect prelude to cocktails or networking. Afternoon tea takes on a theatrical bent too, with menus shaped through collaborations – from Guerlain’s Black Bee line to a patriotic spread inspired by the late batik master Iwan Tirta.

Local culture is woven everywhere: the J.J.A. restaurant’s spiral staircase echoes the Parang Batik motif, guestroom corridors feature ikat-inspired carpets, and suites showcase batik cushions and framed canting stamps.

A sanctuary at every turn

Despite its grandeur, the hotel feels warm and intimate. Meeting rooms flow into homely lounges, one even resembling a chic city loft with floor-to-ceiling windows and leafy views.

Rosé Gourmand Deli offers a chic, Euro-inspired patisserie vibe with in-house cured meats, and blush-toned seating.
