Portofino’s most iconic hillside hideaway is back. Splendido, A Belmond Hotel reopened on 7 June 2025 after an extensive renovation led by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, reimagining this former Benedictine monastery into a sanctuary that marries Riviera romance with Italian craftsmanship.

Inside, the newly redesigned 64 rooms and suites exude Ligurian elegance. Local materials such as Lavagna stone, Carrara marble and Genovese graniglia ground the hotel in tradition, while restored antiques and custom-made furnishings add a collected, residential feel.

Rattan-style Midollino weave appears in headboards and bedside tables, while colourful Albissola ceramics and vintage finds from estate sales inject a sense of lived-in charm. Every room is layered with texture and story, combining comfort with a strong sense of place.

The Baronessa Suite features restored antiques, floral details, a private garden with pool access, and a spacious terrace offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Portofino.

The star of the show is the Baronessa Suite, styled like the private drawing room of a well-travelled Italian noblewoman. Think shell-shaped wall lights, floral lace details and a sweeping terrace with Gulf of Portofino views. It also comes with its own private garden and direct access to the panoramic saltwater pool.

The hotel’s new Baratta Sedici bar is set to become the heart of the social scene, with botanical murals, hand-painted touches, and cocktails like La Vela and U Chef that bring a taste of Liguria to the glass.

Wellness also gets a serious glow-up with the opening of Italy’s first permanent Dior Spa, featuring indoor-outdoor treatment rooms and a garden-set Jardin des Rêves.

Completing the hotel’s rebirth is Villa Beatrice, a private Gothic Revival–Art Nouveau seaside villa opening 29 June. With three floors, frescoed interiors and sweeping views of the Gulf of Tigullio, it offers Belmond’s signature service in a more intimate, exclusive setting.
