Location and History

Built in 1902, this place was immediately dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World—at the time, it boasted the world's largest free-standing dome, even larger than St. Peter's in Rome.

Today, it is still an impressive sight that does a good job of holding in the heat. The Astrodome in Houston is now larger than this one, but this is still the largest one of its type in a hotel at 100 feet high and 200 feet in diameter.
