While most countries lifted Covid-19 travel restrictions long ago, Myanmar has now finally followed suit, signalling its intent to rejoin the international tourism market and offering new opportunities for travellers.

On 8 July 2024, Myanmar officially removed all Covid-19-related entry measures, citing increased global vaccination rates and the public's adaptation to the "new normal" as key factors in this decision.

The lifting of these restrictions aims to boost Myanmar's tourism and trade sectors, which have lagged behind other countries in the region due to prolonged pandemic measures.

With the last of its Covid-19 entry requirements gone, temperature checks at entry points are no longer required, and travelers are not obligated to cover costs for Covid-19 testing, isolation, or medical treatment during their stay. The requirement to report Covid-19 symptoms to health authorities has also been removed.

While health restrictions have been lifted, Myanmar's visa policies remain unchanged. Most travellers still need a visa to enter the country, with a few exceptions for citizens of select ASEAN countries and Russia.

E-Visa options:

  1. Tourist e-Visa: Available to citizens of 100 countries, valid for stays up to 28 days, costing US$50.
  2. Business e-Visa: Available to citizens of 54 countries, valid for stays up to 70 days, priced at US$70.

E-Visa holders can enter Myanmar through four checkpoints: Yangon, Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw International Airports, and the Kawthaung International Checkpoint on the Thai border.
