Macao has a new cultural and commercial landmark in the business district near Senado Square.
Called M8 – ‘M’ representing Macao and ‘8’ symbolising the eight
UNESCO World Heritage sites located nearby - it represents the first
urban renewal project in Macao since its return to China.
The land on which M8 stands previously served as a postal workers' dormitory, but there’s nothing sleepy about the new landmark.
Sophia Loi, director of the M8 Project, said, "This project
represents more than just a construction development; it signifies our
commitment to integrating Macao's rich history with modern culture.”
M8's façade has set a Guinness World Record for the Largest Curved
Stone-Laminated Glass. Its unique design complements the ancient
streetscape of Macau.
The interior of M8 offers a distinct experience on each of nine floors, six of them above ground and three underground.
The main retail anchor store occupies the first two floors, while
floors 2 and 3 will feature international fashion and travel brand
collectives and the first Macao branch of the restaurant Terrace in seaside from Incheon, Korea.
Floors 4 and 5 will introduce distinctive dining brands, including Mango Tree from Thailand and Modern Shanghai Imperial from Hong Kong, both making their debut in Macao and opening in October.
In the future, M8 plans to create a series of unique cultural retail
and art exhibitions on the B2 and B3 levels, aiming to establish this
building as a new cultural experience in Macao.
