Valencia is working desperately to mop up after the devastating floods that have left more than 200 dead and the city in despair.
The damage caused by heavy rains in southern Spain last week have destroyed lives and caused significant damage to tourism infrastructure.
The city, located 300km north-east of Barcelona on the Mediterranean Sea, took the brunt of a severe storm that brought a year’s worth of rain in just one day.
The high-speed rail line between Madrid and Valencia will remain closed for at least three weeks and there are also serious issues with key roads in the area which ‘“could take months to repair”, according to Spain’s Transport Minister, Oscar Puente.
Cruise lines have also begun to change their itineraries to avoid Valencia until the city recovers from the storm’s onslaught.
Odyssey of the Seas’ scheduled call on Valencia, scheduled for November 6, was re-routed to Palma de Mallorca.
Among several events to be cancelled is the Valencia MotoGP. The season finale was scheduled to be held at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo circuit from 15 November.
