While we have received an amazing response from those who have sailed, we do not want our future guests to be in a difficult situation because of this uncertainty.– Bert Hernandez, Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean won't be finishing its 2022 sailings for Hong Kong
due to the prolonged extension and the uncertainty of the situation in
the city.
“Our most prudent course of action is to cancel the season,” said
Bert Hernandez, president, China, Royal Caribbean International. “Since
we first obtained approval to return to cruising, Royal Caribbean has
made tremendous efforts to deliver memorable, award-winning vacations to
the residents of Hong Kong.
"While we have received an amazing response from those who have
sailed, we do not want our future guests to be in a difficult situation
because of this uncertainty.”
According to the cruise line, guests who have booked a Spectrum
cruise from Hong Kong will receive a full refund, including taxes and
fees.
Meanwhile, the Spectrum has been repositioned to Singapore, where it
would begin sailings from April onwards, six months ahead of its initial
October 2022 deployment.
Last
July, Royal Caribbean resumed sailings in Hong Kong on Spectrum with a
host of epidemic prevention policies and emergency response measures in
compliance with local guidelines.
The cruise line also implemented its own health and safety measures
like sailing with a reduced capacity, enhanced cleaning and sanitisation
standards, expanded expert medical care, 100% fresh, filtered air,
among others.
Crew members and guests 12 years of age and older must be fully
vaccinated and provide negative test results before setting sail, while
the crew are tested for Covid-19 on a weekly basis.
