The first Chinese cruise ship to be homeported in Malaysia, the M/V Piano Land, is setting sail on a new course towards Muslim-friendly, family-centred travel ahead of its maiden voyage from Port Klang on 29 November 2025.
A partnership between Astro Ocean Cruise and Hwajing Travel & Tours, the initiative underscores Malaysia’s ambitions to become a leading regional cruise hub and global champion of Muslim-friendly tourism.
The announcement coincides with the inaugural MATTA Muslim Friendly Travel Fair (MFTF), taking place from 18–19 October at Kuala Lumpur’s World Trade Centre, where Hwajing is participating as the official cruise line partner.
“Malaysia’s strength in Muslim-friendly travel now extends to the open sea,” said Kenny Cheong, managing director of Hwajing Travel & Tours. “With Piano Land, we’re showing that luxury cruising can align seamlessly with halal values, inclusive hospitality and cultural respect. It’s a proud reflection of Malaysia’s readiness to welcome travellers of all backgrounds with warmth and authenticity.”
Muslim cruisers onboard the 1,760-passenger capacity Piano Land will be able to enjoy regional and international cuisines prepared to halal standards, including the ship’s signature halal Hong Kong-style roasted duck.
Amenities are also in place to support prayers, families and multi-generational cruisers, as well as nightly entertainment.
Besides halal dining, the ship also features prayer-friendly spaces and family-focused programming including kids’ clubs and nightly entertainment to cater to multi-generational guests.
The launch of M/V Piano Land signifies Malaysia’s wider push for Muslim-friendly travel, which is projected to exceed US$300 billion by 2030.
“This collaboration is not merely about expanding cruise options; it reinforces Malaysia’s identity as a nation that celebrates diversity, champions halal integrity and leads the region in Muslim-friendly tourism,” said Jian-feng Tong, vice president of Astro Ocean Cruise.
