Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun, two of Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) most popular ships, also the two oldest ships in the NCL fleet – are heading for a new life in India.
NCL has arranged to charter the vessels long-term to Cordelia Cruises, India’s fast expanding cruise line.
Norwegian Sky will move in late 2026 and Norwegian Sun will follow a year later.
The Norwegian Sky was launched in 1999, and the Norwegian Sun in 2001, with the latter undergoing a major refurbishment programme as part of the Norwegian Edge programme in 2018. Cordelia has an option to purchase both ships.
Founded in 2020, Cordelia Cruises operates the Cordelia Empress, a former Royal Caribbean ship, and has built up a strong following for its premium services.
Cordelia will retain the ships’ colourful hull art, while the interiors will be refreshed with new venues and upgraded amenities tailored to Indian guests.
Cordelia will also roll out extended itineraries with the new ships, multi-destination voyages, and new embarkation points that reach both Indian coastal cities and international ports.
“This marks the beginning of a bold new chapter,” the company said in a statement. “We’re not just adding capacity – we’re unlocking new destinations, introducing longer itineraries, and reimagining what cruising means for India and beyond.
“More importantly, this expansion reinforces our vision of making cruise holidays more accessible and proudly Indian.”
Until the transfer to Cordelia Cruises, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun will continue to serve their traditional NCL-flagged itineraries.
