Cunard has formally named its new Queen Anne liner in its spiritual
home of Liverpool with a performance from legendary Italian tenor Andrea
Bocelli and music from the Beatles.
Liverpool was the birthplace of Cunard and was the company’s headquarters for 128 years.
Queen Anne is Cunard first new ship for 14 years and completes a
quartet alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria –
marking the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in
simultaneous service.
Queen Anne captain Inger Thorhauge said the ceremony in Liverpool
marked a milestone for the company as it moved into the future with new
technology, more modern features and more dining venues and bars
onboard.
The 113,000 tonne ship houses 3,000 guests over 14 decks
Queen Anne will embark on her first World Voyage in January 2025,
with guests spending 107 nights on board, visiting more than 30 ports in
five continents.
From Sydney, sector opportunities include a 19-night voyage to Hong Kong, or a 25-night option that ends in Singapore.
The Liverpool ship naming ceremony concluded with Andrea Bocelli singing his best known aria, ‘It’s Time to Say Goodbye’.
