Holland America Line has introduced an extensive 53-day cruise
itinerary to Japan, scheduled for departure in September 2024. This
marks a notable first for the company, featuring a roundtrip journey
from Seattle aboard its Westerdam vessel.
The itinerary, presented as part of Holland America's Legendary
Voyages program, is designed to offer travellers a comprehensive
experience that fully immerses them in the destination, encompassing 13
Japanese port cities during the autumn season when temperatures are
favorable.
What passengers can expect
- Scenic cruises: The journey commences with
remarkable port calls in Alaska, encompassing Kodiak and Dutch Harbor,
offering breathtaking views of Alaska's landscapes. Travellers will can
also marvel at the Alaska Inside Passage and Stephen's Passage.
- Diverse Japanese port cities: The cruise will visit 13 Japanese port cities.
- Historical significance: Guests will have the
opportunity to visit historically significant World War II sites,
including the Children's Peace Monument and the Hiroshima Peace
Memorial, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Overnight stays: The itinerary includes overnight stays in key cities such as Yokohama (Tokyo), Kobe, and Honolulu.
- Autumn beauty: Given the September departure date,
passengers may witness the beginning of autumn leaves changing colours
in the high country around Mt. Tateyama near Toyama.
- Diverse cultural experiences: Travellers will have
the opportunity to engage with Japan's diverse culture, explore its
mountainous regions, and visit bustling population centers like Kobe and
Yokohama.
The 2004-built Westerdam will also treat travellers to scenic cruises
around iconic locations such as Iwo Jima and Midway Island before
returning to the U.S. Highlights include stops in three Hawaiian
destinations: Nawiliwili, Kauai, and Honolulu.
