Short getaways over long weekends are becoming a key travel trend across the Asia Pacific region, according to Agoda.
The digital travel platform observed increased interest in regional destinations among travellers from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam during recent holiday periods.
Ahead of the Hari Raya Haji long weekend, Agoda reported an 80% month-on-month surge in accommodation searches from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Popular destinations included Japan, Thailand, China, South Korea, and Taiwan.
A similar trend was seen during Thailand’s Songkran holiday, with top searches focused on Hong Kong, Osaka, Shanghai, and Seoul. During Vietnam’s Liberation Day and Labour Day long weekend, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, and Seoul emerged as leading destinations.
