One of the most successful stories in the technology realm in the wake of Covid-19, Zoom has added an immersive dimension to their product offerings with OnZoom, giving paid users the ability to monetise events hosting up to 1,000 attendees.
Now in the beta phase, Zoom users will be able to use the video platform’s ‘event discovery’ function to search the directory for public events and purchase tickets directly using PayPal and major credit cards.
Businesses that stand to benefit from this pool of audiences include the likes of fitness classes, concerts, live shows, events and even exhibitions. These can be one-time, or part of an event series, while non-profits can also schedule fundraisers on the platform – using Zoom to reach new audiences beyond a business geographical location.
Beautiful Destinations, for instance, sees OnZoom as a way to “virtually travel to a destination and bring our audience along with us,” said Tom Jauncey, vice resident of content creation at the travel marketing and media company.
For tour operator, Druk Asia, which specialises in outbound travel to Bhutan, Zoom’s newest paid live event feature is definitely a way of “giving people a real sense of being there in the moment”.
"We need to continue keeping destinations such as Bhutan top of mind, and remind them of the exceptional experiences that await them when they can travel here again," said Joni Herison, director of partnership, Druk Asia, who intends to use OnZoom to potential revenue stream to connect with clients through its virtual tours of Bhutan.
