SOUTHLAKE, Texas - Sabre will cut loose 800 employees in 43 office locations and will combine its airline and agency-focused businesses as part of a strategic realignment.

Sabre said further details about the organisation and its leadership team will be announced in July, when the structure goes into place. The realignment is expected to be largely complete by the third quarter of 2020.

Sabre CEO Sean Menke said the realignment is a continuation of organisational changes Sabre began in 2018.  The plan was accelerated by the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

“Sabre’s new organisation is built upon the premise that the retailing, distribution and fulfillment of travel will continue to evolve over the next decade, and each of these elements will become even more interconnected and interdependent,” Mr Menke said.

Sabre called its workforce reduction “a right-sizing” of its organisation. The cuts will be in addition to about 400 employees who have left the organisation as part of its coronavirus-related voluntary severance and early retirement programmes.

The company will end its coronavirus-related furloughs on or before 6 July 6. It will restore compensation back to 100% of base pay.

Sabre is also adopting a remote work programme for employees.
