The collaboration aims to help CNTO expand its footprint through Travelport’s travel commerce platform and Travelport Digital Media products.

Travel commerce platform Travelport has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China National Tourist Office New York (CNTO New York) on October 19 to establish a strategic agreement to market China as a tourist destination for North American travellers.

The collaboration aims to help CNTO expand its footprint through Travelport’s travel commerce platform and Travelport Digital Media products.

Both Travelport and CNTO New York will also work to promote China through trade engagement and drive affluent travellers and MICE travellers to China.

Peggy Bianco, VP, Global Head of Hotel Partners and Digital Media at Travelport, said, “We see huge potential for China to become a tourist hotspot for global travelers. In 2017 alone, Travelport’s data revealed 15.3 million inbound flights booked there. We are very excited to work with CNTO to promote the country globally by exploiting Travelport’s technology, partnerships and expertise in destination marketing.  This new partnership will provide inspiration to  travelers globally and generate substantial business opportunities for the travel industry.”

Lin Kuang, Director of China National Tourist Office New York said, “Despite the growth of inbound travelers to China in recent years, there is more to our country’s breadth and diversity that is yet to be demonstrated to travelers around the globe. We believe experienced partners like Travelport will play a significant role in helping us achieve this mission. The entire travel ecosystem will also benefit from the expansion of inbound travel to China, leading to a more vibrant and prosperous business landscape for the industry.”

Travelport has been working with Beijing Tourism and Hangzhou Tourism Commission since 2015 to drive more awareness of these destinations.
