The "Experience Macao" Oversea Roadshow recently made a stop in
Singapore, hosting a four-day extravaganza at Suntec City Atrium from
April 25 to 28. Organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO),
the event aimed to showcase Macao as a premier travel destination and
provide visitors with a glimpse into its rich array of experiences.
Cheng Wai Tong, deputy director of the Macao Government Tourism
Office (MGTO), underscored the remarkable resurgence of Macao's tourism
industry since reopening to international travel in 2023. Visitor
arrivals have rebounded to 71% of pre-pandemic levels, with a notable
surge in interest from Singaporean travellers. In the first quarter of
2024, there was a staggering 263.1% increase in average daily visitor
volume compared to the previous year.
Roaring into the Singapore market
To capitalise on this momentum, MGTO has implemented a series of
promotional initiatives tailored to the Singaporean market. These
efforts include collaborations with airlines, social media influencers,
content marketing campaigns, and participation in travel fairs like the
NATAS Holiday 2023 Travel Fair. Looking ahead, MGTO plans to further
amplify its marketing endeavours in Singapore, focusing on strategic
partnerships, digital engagement, and participation in major travel
events.
However, Macao's pursuit extends beyond Singaporean travellers alone.
The Roadshow arrived in Singapore following MGTO's successful event in
Japan. Cheng highlighted MGTO's anticipation for upcoming roadshows in
key markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea.
Additionally, Macao is keenly monitoring emerging markets like India,
the Middle East, and Europe.
To penetrate these markets effectively, MGTO is eager to collaborate
with travel agents. According to Cheng, “to strengthen connections with
Southeast Asian trade partners, familiarisation tours and trade seminars
were arranged for travel trade members and they were invited to
participate in the Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo.”
