“We want to shift the global axis of travel innovations and disruptive ideas to Asia. It is better for us to disrupt our own business than others disrupt us,” said Anthony Chan, managing director of Chan Brothers Group.
Chan Brothers Group, the largest group of travel agencies and tour operator in Singapore and the region, is launching a new initiative to incubate and accelerate startups in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
Called the Chan Brothers accelerator programme, it is the first of its kind among travel agencies in Singapore and the region.
“We want to shift the global axis of travel innovations and disruptive ideas to Asia. It is better for us to disrupt our own business than others disrupt us,” said Anthony Chan, managing director of Chan Brothers Group.
“By investing in innovation and leveraging on our knowledge and expertise to develop an ecosystem for the development of early stage technology startups, we are committed in moving towards the future of travel that is more efficient and accessible to our customers.”
Partnering with TNB Ventures, a new generation venture accelerator responsible for the growth of over 80 startups in Singapore in the past three years, Chan Brothers Group is targeting to raise SGD$1 million (US$747,000) in capital funding for investment in startups and operations, extending worldwide by partnering with leading incubators such as Plug and Play US to provide a cross-border platform and resources.
The accelerator programme is the first phase of development of Chan Brothers Lab, a planned incubator workspace of up to 186 sqm at Chan Brothers Group properties.
Startups will have access to Chan Brothers Group key advisors, who will bring on board industry knowledge and expertise necessary for mentoring emerging startups in the areas of travel, tourism and hospitality.
