JAKARTA - Ritz Carlton has confirmed it is underway with plans to establish a new hotel in Indonesia's capital. The property is being seen by industry-watchers as a likely rate-leader on completion. Public relations official Stephanie Platt told

TravelWeekly from Ritz Carlton headquarters that the company signed a management agreement on the property in December 2002. The site is positioned across from the new JW Marriott Jakarta, and shares a common owner.

"Construction should begin December 2003, but we do not have an opening date right now. Our regional vice president for International Hotels will be in Asia in late July, and will be finalising some of these details," said Platt.
