SINGAPORE - The Le Meridien chain is ending its management contract with the Le Meridien Changi hotel in Singapore – with the hotel being renamed Changi Village Hotel, sources said. Le Meridien, which has been managing the hotel since it opened in 1985, had asked for early termination of its contract which is due to end December 31 this year, the source said. TravelWeekly East understands the owners, Far East Organisation, will take over the management of the hotel from April 1. The source said the physical quality of the 16-year-old hotel is not up to the standard of a Le Meridien, suggesting that could be the reason for the early termination of the contract. The 280-room hotel has not undergone major renovations since it opened but it’s expected to do so later this year. Far East has yet to respond to TravelWeekly East’s queries. Far East’s other hotels in Singapore are The Fullerton Singapore, Orchard Parade, Elizabeth, Albert Court and Golden Landmark.
