Else Retreats will debut the brand’s first property in Kuala Lumpur
in July, with the ambitious aim of becoming a focal point at the heart
of the creative-cultural hub in the Malaysian capital city.
The hotel’s 49 rooms range from the Mantra standard room to the Else
Suite, designed with soft palettes and natural tropical textures to
create a minimalist and contemporary sanctuary for its guests.
Else features a range of wellness facilities including a gym, a
‘gratitude space’ and floating meditation pods for guests seeking to
disconnect from the daily grind.
In contrast, travellers can reconnect with their daily lives and draw
inspiration via Else’s private meeting room, communal co-working space,
sunken living room, drawing room and library.
Else’s F&B options available have been specifically selected to
give guests a sense of home. The Raw Kitchen Hall, sister to Singapore’s
Raw Kitchen Bar, is a social space serving up Asian to Mediterranean
dishes. Meanwhile, The Yellow Fin Horse offers a contemporary approach
to Malaysian-fusion cuisine.
The site that Else will be situated on once used to be the holiday
home of Yap Kwan Seng, the fifth and last Kapitan China of Kuala Lumpur.
In honouring the building’s heritage, Justin Chen, co-founder of Else
shares that the architecture has been largely preserved.
"Else is rooted in a strong sense of purpose, authenticity and
intention. Keeping true to these values, we created calming and
comfortable rooms, living and a communal co-work space so guests can
both unplug and plugin,” says Javier Perez, the other co-founder of
Else.
