One would be forgiven for thinking Nagoya has a new castle. That’s precisely because the city’s newest hotel, Espacio Nagoya Castle, has been designed to look like one.

Located beside the 17th-century Nagoya Castle – once the seat for the powerful Owari Tokugawa clan during the Edo period – the luxurious 11-storey newbuild features a terraced roof and angular stone-style base, taking reference from Japanese Sengoku period architecture.

The interiors are adorned with artworks inspired by mythic guardians, including the Kirin, Phoenix, Tortoise, and Dragon.

With just 100 guestrooms available, guests can also expect the luxury of space – where even the entry-level Deluxe room comes in at 49sqm. The Onsen Collection suites come with its own hot spring baths.

There are also six Art Collection rooms, each created by a designer, incorporating traditional materials including gold leaf, patterned paper, woodworking, and lacquer.

Espacio Nagoya Castle offers eight restaurants, including French, Japanese and Chinese cuisines. Apart from a pool, gym and Japanese hot spring, it also offers a spa that offers anti-aging options.

A stay at hotel that looks like a castle doesn’t come cheap though. Most rooms are priced about approximately over ¥200,000 for one night, with the samurai-themed rooms priced at up to ¥4 million (US$25,400).
