The fashion world was in mourning following the news of the passing of Karl Lagerfeld on 19 February 2019 at the age of 85.

One of the industry’s most iconic of the 20th century’s fashion designers, Lagerfeld was creative director of French luxury fashion house Chanel and also at the creative helm at Fendi.

In Macau, hospitality company and casino concessionaire SJM Holdings, currently mid building the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel, issued a statement saying they were “deeply saddened”.

The Karl Lagerfeld Hotel (and the Palazzo Versace) are to be part of the multi-billion-dollar integrated casino resort the Grand Lisboa Palace, which is slated to open in the second half of 2019.

“SJM is deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Karl Lagerfeld, and offers our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Our thoughts are with them and with all those in the design world to whom he was such an inspiration,” stated SJM Holdings.

“It has been an honor for SJM to work with [Karl Lagerfeld], and we look forward to completing the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel at the Grand Lisboa Palace in Macau as a legacy to his creative genius.”
