Kempinski Hotels has filed a criminal lawsuit against former longtime CEO Reto Wittwer in Switzerland.
The luxury hotel company alleges “professional misconduct and fraud,” saying that Wittwer defrauded Kempinski out of “significant sums of money.”
“The high responsibilities of executive office and the fundamental values on which Kempinski has carefully built its business have, we believe, been deliberately flouted in the pursuit of personal greed and unlawful gain,” said Kempinski CEO Alejandro Bernabe in a statement. Bernabe succeeded Wittwer last October.
Kempinski added that it “obliged” Wittwer to retire as CEO last year because of its initial findings and has escalated efforts because of the results of a continuing probe. Wittwer joined Kempinski as CEO in 1995.
