The Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel that opened in Sanur in 1963 as the island’s first five-star hotel is to be replaced by Hotel Indonesia Bali.
The hotel was built towards the end of the Soekarno era using war compensation funds from the Japanese, and is the only hotel in Bali whose height exceeds 15 metres – higher that the island limit of the height of a coconut tree.
In 1993 Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel was damaged by a major fire but room 327 was not touched by the flames that destroyed rooms around it. Today that room is maintained as a shrine.
The phased development of the resort’s 43-hecrates will start with 139 deluxe rooms and 22 suites. The initial phase will also establish meeting and conference facilities that include a ballroom suitable for 900 people, a bar, restaurant, fitness centre, swimming pool, spa and retail shopping centre.
The first phase of the hotel is due to be completed by November 2020. The total multi-phase revitalisation when completed will create 1,017 rooms comprised of 943 three to five star units, 73 premium villas, one presidential villa, a convention centre capable of handling 10,000 guests, a lifestyle art market, eco-park, boat pier, and a helipad.
The project is a joint venture between four state-owned companies.
