KYOTO – Nintendo’s old card-game headquarters in Kyoto will be turned into a hotel and is expected begin receiving guests from the summer of 2021.
The office building had served as the company’s old headquarters since 1933 until it outgrew the space as it rapidly grew into one of the most successful entertainment media companies.
The hotel will be managed by the Tokyo-based Plan Do See, which specialises in renovating unused heritage buildings and giving them a second lease of life.
The renovation will retain and refurbishment the existing building, with additional structures to be constructed. The existing building will be turned into a 20-guestroom hotel, with facilities such as a restaurant, bar, gym and spa.
The hotel, which has yet to have an official name, is located two blocks from the scenic Kamogawa River and within easy walking distance of Shichijo Station, Shoseien Garden, and Higashi Honganji Temple.
