The Hari Hong Kong is offering guests a new way to discover the city after dark. Teaming up with licensed guide and content creator @explore_hongkong, the hotel has launched the ‘Best of Wan Chai at Night Tour – Explore Hong Kong Like a Local’, a roughly two-hour private tour that dives into the rich history, hidden rituals, and food culture of Wan Chai and nearby Causeway Bay.
The experience begins with hotel pick-up, before guests cross one of Hong Kong’s busiest intersections at Yee Wo Street and enter the backstreets of Causeway Bay to visit a local grandma who practises ‘Villain Hitting’ (打小人) – a form of Chinese folk sorcery that involves striking paper effigies to curse enemies, banish bad luck or purge negative energy.
From there, the group explores a lively wet market to see how locals shop for the freshest produce, before strolling through Wan Chai’s vibrant street markets. Along the way, guests sample two classic local snacks, including traditional Chinese desserts and crispy Hong Kong-style egg waffles.
Participants then hop aboard the 100-year-old Ding Ding Tram, a beloved icon of the city, to take in views of Hong Kong’s bustling nightscape. The tour also offers panoramic perspectives of both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, while revealing how feng shui shapes the city’s distinctive skyline.
A final stop at a 140-year-old Chinese tea shop invites guests to slow down and savour the age-old craft of tea-making, while uncovering stories from the district’s past.
“Each and every attraction on our new tour peels back Wan Chai’s layers, connecting guests with its rich past and exciting present,” said Edward E. Snoeks, General Manager of The Hari Hong Kong.
