For a quieter and more unique way to enjoy Japan’s iconic Sakura season, Shishi-Iwa House is offering a one-of-a-kind trekking package this April. The four-night/five-day journey, running from 20 to 24 April, takes guests through Nagano’s eight famous peaks, offering breathtaking views of cherry blossoms from higher altitudes, away from the crowds.
The adventure begins with a half-day trek up Mt. Kurofu, where guests can explore rugged cliffs and volcanic slopes before taking in panoramic views of cherry blossoms blanketing the landscape. On the following day, trekkers ascend Mt. Iodake, part of the Yatsugatake Mountains, offering vistas of Japan’s Alps and Mt. Yakedake.
A highlight of the trek is the chance to visit the ancient Yamataka Jindai Zakura, one of Japan's three greatest cherry trees, and enjoy the Wanitsuka Sakura set against the majestic Mt. Fuji. These stops offer an ever-changing view of the Sakura season, providing an elevated experience away from the typical cherry blossom crowds.
Alongside the trekking, the package also includes cultural and culinary experiences. Guests can explore the remote Kiyoharu Art Colony, featuring works by celebrated architects like Tadao Ando, and visit Terunobu Fujimori’s one-legged teahouse, perched on a 80-year-old cypress tree. The journey also offers exquisite dining at Shishi-Iwa House’s Shola, Stove Kiyoharu, and Vase Karuizawa.
After a day of exploration, guests can unwind at Honzawa Onsen, Japan’s highest outdoor natural onsen, and enjoy traditional therapies like shiatsu massages to aid recovery.
Priced at JPY 628,000 (US$4,140) per person, the package includes accommodations, guided treks, meals, wellness experiences, transport, and professional photography services, ensuring a memorable and unique Sakura adventure.
