HK expo industry worth US$2.4 billion: report

HONG KONG: Hong Kong’s exhibition industry contributes around HK$19 billion (US$2.4 billion) to the economy, according to a new report funded by the industry and government. The amount translated to about 1.5 percent of GDP, better than the share in countries like Germany (1 percent) and the UK (0.8 percent). Of the total expenditure, half was made up of direct spending – expenditure specifically by visitors (70 percent), organisers and exhibitors. Indirect expenditure amounted to HK$5.7 billion. The report also indicated that the exhibition industry’s activities generated 47,000 jobs across a range of industries.
