29 May 2003KUALA LUMPUR - MAS Golden Holidays, the travel arm of
Malaysia, yesterday launched the "Golden Holidays Great
Getaways" packages, in a bid to revive the travel market
and to promote domestic holidays among Malaysians and
foreign visitors.
The 22 three-day/two-night package to selected
destinations is sold at a discounted price of between 35
percent and 40 percent, beginning this month until August.
A package for Kuching is now priced at RM380 (US$100) as
opposed to its normal price of RM524.
The price of the packages ranges from RM182 to RM524 and
includes return economy class air fare, accommodation,
breakfast, airport transfers and optional sightseeing
tours.
Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul
Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, who launched the packages, called on
Malaysians to take advantage of "this golden opportunity"
to travel and discover Malaysia.
MAS senior general manager, Datuk Ahmad Fuad Dahlan,
said that MAS was confident that the packages would help
stimulate domestic tourism. The airline will spend about
RM1.5 million in advertisements to promote the packages in
the printed media and over radio and television starting
yesterday.
He expects MAS weekly domestic load to double to almost
30,000 with the introduction of the packages.
Earlier this week MAS announced an additional 57
domestic flights for the June school holidays, which will
start this weekend.
The "Golden Holidays Great Getaways" is a collaborative
effort with Tourism Malaysia, the Malaysian Association of
Hotels, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents
and the Car Rental Associations of Malaysia.
