Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants made its debut in Macau last year, and will return again on March 26 at the Wynn Macau. It will also feature events including collaborative dinners and talks.

Fifty of Asia’s most outstanding restaurants will be crowned next March in Macau when the prestigious annual culinary award returns to the city-state.

The talk series, #50BestTalks, will be held on March 25. World-leading chefs and culinary leaders will head discussions on topics such as sustainability, sourcing, over-consumption and other current issues facing chefs, restaurateurs and diners.

William Drew, group editor of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, said the event programme and awards last year attracted the highest number of attendees in the event’s history, and he expects an even bigger turnout this year. 

The 2018 edition featured eight new entries and included special awards such as the Miele One To Watch Award, Asia’s Best Pastry Chef, the Sustainable Restaurant Award and the elit Vodka Asia’s Best Female Chef. 

“The innovative and creative spirit of Asia’s top chefs gathered in Macao in March this year left a strong impression in our city. As a newly designated UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, we are looking forward to interacting once again with the best of the best in the Asian culinary world,” said Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of Macao Government Tourism Office.

Annually, the list is voted on by an influential group of more than 300 leaders in Asia’s restaurant industry, which comprise of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded ‘gastronomes’. The vote will be based on judges’ best restaurant experiences of the past 18 months.
