The MotoGP Australian Grand Prix will be moving to Adelaide next year, ending a near three-decade run on Philip Island since 1997.

MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group and ‌the South Australia state government signed a six-year agreement, with the first Adelaide race slated for November 2027.

Unlike ‌Formula One, this will be MotoGP’s first street race, primarily due to safety concerns.

The race will be held on a revised version of the Grand Prix circuit last used in the mid-nineties, and will see the return of racing in iconic locations including Stag Corner at the intersection of Rundle Street and East Terrace.

"This city has a world class reputation for hosting major events, and the opportunity to design a purpose-built circuit in the heart of the city is something truly unique in our sport," said MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer, Carlos Ezpeleta.

The planned downtown circuit will run approximately 4.195 km with 18 turns and expected top speeds of more than 340 kmh.

The city’s first Australian MotoGP™ race will take place in the period before the bp Adelaide Grand Final, to maximise utilisation of the circuit and minimise disruptions.

Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas has called this a major coup for South Australia and yet more evidence the state has real momentum.

"We back major events that deliver a strong economic return and MotoGP does exactly that. MotoGP is growing globally at record pace – and Adelaide will now be a key part of that growth story."

The MotoGP community comprises more than 630 million fans, 3.6 million attendees in 2025, and a 9% uptick in TV audiences over the past year.
