Up to 30 people have been swindled out of at least a million baht, reported Thairath.
Police in Thailand are investigating after people fell for a Facebook scam that advertised, “buy one lump of gold, get another one free”.
Up to 30 people have been swindled out of at least a million baht, reported Thairath.
The alleged swindler posted pictures of herself online in a new house with a new car after the scam, a move that alerted at least one of those who had lost money.
One of the victims, a 27-year-old company employee, said that a friend had suggested she buy gold online.
She had transferred money to buy gold but neither her original purchase nor the bonus arrived in the post.
That was when she saw pictures of the woman she had paid brazenly showing off her new purchases in Chiang Mai.
Investigations are continuing.
