Japanese authorities in Fujikawaguchiko town are taking drastic measures to combat overcrowding at a popular Mount Fuji photo spot.

Frustrated by disrespectful behavior and safety concerns among tourists, officials plan to erect a 2.5-metre-high barrier stretching 20 metres this week, effectively blocking the iconic volcano's view .

The decision comes amidst a surge in tourist numbers, with over 3 million monthly visitors to Japan, leading to overcrowding and disregard for local regulations. The photo spot, featuring Mount Fuji behind a Lawson convenience store, has become a social media sensation, attracting hordes of tourists.

Despite warnings and traffic regulations, tourists have continued to disregard rules, prompting the town to resort to the barrier as a last-ditch effort. The move aims to safeguard public safety and nearby establishments, including a dental clinic, frequently inconvenienced by unauthorised parking and rooftop climbing for photos.
