Angel Air inaugurated its new Bangkok-Hong Kong daily service over the weekend using a Lockheed 1011 leased from Orient Thai decked out in Angel Air livery.

Angel Air started the service on Saturday after missing two self-imposed deadlines for the service on July 15 and July 20.

Angel Air president Somchai Bencharongkul confirmed official approval had been given by Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation department late last week.

The flights are being sold by tour operators in Hong Kong who are filling the seats with business out of mainland China and Hong Kong, according to Somchai. He said it was possible seats could become available for sale out of Bangkok this weekend.

Enquiries on seat availability and fares made to Angel Air’s Bangkok office today (Monday) were redirected to the office of Kampuchea Airlines, also owned by Orient Thai managing director Udom Tantiprasongchai. Staff at the Kampuchea Airlines office said they could not confirm a seat out of Bangkok until next week. Nor were they able to quote a fare price.

Somchai said the airline was not over its financial hurdles yet. "It’s just a part of it. Now I’ll start moving on to long term projects."

He said flights to Phuket were a possibility.
