Lufthansa Group will offer up to 50 weekly flights to Japan in summer 2027, with Lufthansa resuming its Frankfurt–Nagoya route and launching a daily seasonal service between Frankfurt and Tokyo-Narita. Flights are available for booking.
The expanded schedule will see Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways collectively serve Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya. The group said the additional services respond to rising demand for travel to Japan.
Lufthansa’s daily Frankfurt–Narita service will begin on 28 March 2027, followed by the return of Frankfurt–Nagoya flights on 29 March. The Nagoya route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Both services are seasonal additions for the summer schedule.
The airline will deploy Boeing 787-9 aircraft with its Allegris cabin on both routes, offering 28 business class seats, 28 premium economy seats and 231 economy seats. The new Narita flights will complement Lufthansa’s existing daily services to Tokyo–Haneda from Frankfurt and Munich.
SWISS will also expand its Japan schedule, offering up to seven weekly flights between Zurich and Tokyo–Narita. Lufthansa Group said the combined expansion would reinforce its position as the leading European airline group in Japan by weekly flight frequency.
“Japan is a key market for the Lufthansa Group, and we are pleased to further strengthen our presence with additional capacity and the resumption of flights to Nagoya,” said Dieter Vranckx, Lufthansa Group executive board member and chief commercial officer.
The Nagoya service will reconnect Frankfurt with a major Japanese industrial and economic centre. Aichi Prefecture, of which Nagoya is the capital, is a key hub for the country’s automotive and manufacturing industries. Travellers departing Nagoya will also be able to connect through Frankfurt to destinations across Europe and South America.
