The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is gearing up to officially open for operations in December 2025.

Phase one will operate with one runway and terminal, where the first day is expected to see 50 to 60 commercial flights. It will be able to handle 20 million passengers annually.

Capacity is expected to scale up over 2026, to handle 155 million passengers.

Travel agents and airline websites should be able to add ‘NMI’ into their ticketing systems by November. The existing Mumbai airport operates under the IATA code of ‘BOM’, and can handle 950 daily flights. NMIA will add 380 flights per day during phase one.

NMIA is India’s largest greenfield airport project, to address Mumbai’s capacity constraints – which Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings says is “underserved”.
