Designs have been approved for the new passenger terminal in Dubai,
which will be the largest airport in the world when fully operational.
The new terminal will ultimately enable the airport to handle a passenger capacity of 260 million annually.
Ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed said on
X, “We are preparing for a new phase in the growth of the global
aviation sector. We are preparing for a phase in which Dubai leads the
international aviation sector for the next 40 years."
Al Maktoum International Airport will be five times the size of the
current Dubai International Airport and will accommodate 400 aircraft
gates and feature five parallel runways. New aviation technologies will
be employed for the first time in the aviation sector.
It is expected that the first phase of the project will be ready within a period of 10 years.
