9 April 2003KUALA LUMPUR - The New ASEAN Tourism Association's
(ASEANTA) Secretariat Office has come online with from
March 24.
Situated in Tourism Malaysia's offices at Menara Dato
Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, the
Secretariat is headed by Sebastian Lo as its executive
director.
With the setting up of a permanent secretariat in the
Malaysian capital, ASEANTA is poised to embark on a series
of projects in 2003 focused on developing international
travel into ASEAN, as well as promoting inter and
intra-ASEAN tourism growth, the secretariat said in a press
release.
As part of its strategic business plan, ASEANTA is
looking at ways to form partnerships and working closely
with industry, public sector and other private businesses
to promote the ASEAN region as a destination of choice for
both leisure and business travellers, thereby benefitting
all its members.
ASEANTA has also set its sights on further raising the
benchmark for tourism related services in ASEAN by
consulting with members on their needs, and working with
highly regarded vendors to provide training and quality
certification programmes for members.
ASEANTA's vision is to be recognised as the premier
travel association for the region.
