Location and History
Planted midblock, 100 yards west of the marina, a 10-minute stroll with luggage from the ferry terminal, this coy three-story inn was the island's first lodge, and a thorough renovation in 2018 restored was completed to honor its centennial.
Named for Helen Atwater, the daughter-in-law of the island's former owner, the hotel is a well-designed family-friendly place that is probably in better shape now than it was when it opened in the early 1920s.
