A statue of the ex-Thai Navy Seal who lost his life during the mission will also be part of the complex, which is expected to be completed early 2019.

Construction of a museum commemorating the rescue of the 12 young soccer players, the Wild Boars, from the Tham Luang cave is underway near Chiang Rai.

A statue of the ex-Thai Navy Seal who lost his life during the mission will also be part of the complex, which is expected to be completed early 2019.

The Bangkok Post reports the design of the museum and the statue is being overseen by national artist Chalermchai Kositpipat at a site near where the 12 boys and their coach were trapped in the flooded cave from June 23 to July 10.

A gallery will house a 3-metre by 13-metre canvas painted by artists at the Art Bridge Chiang Rai centre as well as photographs of the rescue operation.

Soon after the rescue of the boys, Thai PM Prayuth Chan-o-Cha, in a Facebook Live broadcast, said the cave was now famous the world over and would eventually “become a tourist spot”.
