Forbes Adviser has released a new study that reveals Switzerland is
the safest European country to go on holiday this summer, where as the
UK is the least safe.
Analyses for the research was based on the quality of bathing waters,
the quality of healthcare and the rate of thefts and homicides. These
findings were then tabulated and assigned a final safety score, to
deduce the safety levels of Europe’s popular travel destinations.
1. Switzerland

Switzerland boasts the highest safety score of 88.3. The rate of
homicides is low compared to other countries, at 5.7 per million,
amounting to 50 homicides in 2019. It also offers the best healthcare
out of all the 28 European countries analysed.
If travellers fancy soaking in the bathtub after a long day spent in
the Swiss Alps, they’ll be happy to note that 93% of Switzerland’s bath
waters is considered excellent quality. While the air that travellers
will be taking in is also the 10th cleanest in the list.
2. Slovenia

Slovenia is the second safest country to travel to with a safety
score of 82.3. It has one of the lowest homicide rates in the list,
amounting to 4.8 per million. The country’s bathing waters also perform
well, with 85% rated as excellent.
3. Portugal

With a safety score of 82.1, Portugal is the third safest country for
travellers. Like Switzerland, 93% of Portugal’s bath waters are
excellent quality. When it comes to air quality, Portugal triumphs over
Switzerland, with one of the cleanest air in Europe.
4. Austria

Austria stands at fourth place with a total index safety score of
81.4. The number of homicides is low compared to other countries,
amounting to 8.2 per million people. The country has one of the highest
percentages of excellent bathing waters out of all the countries
analysed (98%), second only to Cyprus (100%).
5. Germany

Germany made the top five safest European country to visit in 2022
with a safety score of 81.2. It has a low number of homicides, at 6.9
million, ranks eighth for best air quality, and the country’s 93% of
excellent bathing waters make it ideal for swimmers and tourists.
