Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market has been named the world’s best night market by long-haul travel specialists, Travelbag.
Chatuchak, one of the largest markets in the world with 15,000 stalls, narrowly edged out Pub Street in Siem Reap, Cambodia, while another Bangkok institution, Jodd Fairs Night Market, occupied third spot.
Chatuchak Weekend Market was the most searched for market online in the study (4.5 million annually). It’s also one of the most popular on social media, with 14,600 TikTok posts featuring travellers sharing their experiences and recommendations.
Pub Street in Siem Reap is a big hit with travellers because of traditional Cambodian dishes such as amok fish, lok lak, and fresh shellfish. Travelbag says the market consistently earns near-perfect tourist ratings, averaging 4.4 out of 5.
Jodd Fairs Night Market in Bangkok is cherished by food lovers and night owls, offering a mix of traditional Thai street food and trendy snacks. Significant search demand (486,000 per year) highlights its growing popularity.
Asian markets dominated the top 10 places in Travelbag’s rankings with Petaling Street Market in Kuala Lumpur ranking fourth best in the world, ahead of Shilin Night Market and Nigxia Night Market, both in Taipei.
Travelbag’s survey analysed local safety scores, social media metrics, search volume, and tourist reviews.
The first non-Asian Market to make the list was Queen’s Night Market in New York City in seventh place.
The top ten was completed by Chiang Rai Night Market, 626 Night Market in Los Angeles and Bugis Street Market in Singapore.
