Call it a rebrand, call it national pride but don't call it "Turkey" anymore.
The country's spelling has been changed to Turkiye because it
"represents and expresses the culture, civilisation and values of the
Turkish nation in the best way," the country said in an announcement.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the name change in early December.
In the Turkish language, the country has all along been spelt as
“Türkiye” since the country declared independence in 1923. This name
change only serves for Turkiye to reclaim its rightful identity on a
global scale.
Erdogan instructed for all of the country’s exports to be labelled as
“Made in Türkiye”. The name change will also be reflected in all formal
communications and across its government websites — the country's
tourism website, GoTurkiye.com, has since undergone the rebranding.
