Casino and resort owners in Las Vegas are calling for a special court that once handled local petty crime to be reopened.

The call is being made in a bid to revive Las Vegas tourism which has stalled, with just over three million visitors in September, an 8.8% decrease from the same time last year, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCA).

A specialised court was created in 2022 to handle offences such as petty theft, assault, drug violations and loitering, with penalties including banning offenders from the Las Vegas Strip for a year.

The Resort Corridor Court, however, was disbanded less than two years later after judges raised concerns about its legality.

Nevada Resort Association president Virginia Valentine said reopening the court was important for the safety of guests and for employees in the workplace.
